Referred by: I WONDER
Other characters: None

Character Name: Zuko
Series: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Game transfering from: Bastion
Canon Point in previous game: Following her Agni Kai with Azula / pre-coronation
Summary/History: Linking her Bastion application since that also has her AU info.
Changes in character from previous game:

Zuko has an immense love of her country, so learning that she'd lost it was a heavy blow. To cope, she very quickly started viewing the people of the Bastion as her own people. They can never replace the Fire Nation in her heart, but she's still developed a strong sense of duty to them. She also developed more confidence as a leader; whereas ruling the Fire Nation was her birthright, any leadership she held in the Bastion was something she earned.

Being able to gain the respect and friendship of so many people poked some big holes in her belief that she's not a likeable person. She still struggles with her self-esteem, but now she has her friendships to use as weapons against it. She's realized that her unlikeability isn't a fact of life, but her own flawed perspective.

She's also finally begun accepting her own sexuality, something she lived in denial of back home. Developing a crush and being around people who not only noticed but supported it slowly brought her around to acknolwedging it. She has a ways to go before reaching self-acceptance in any area, including this one, but it's something she's now working on. She even has a girlfriend, and that helps her to imagine a future for herself that isn't just about duty, but her own happiness, too.

Overall, her time in the Bastion has helped her come to a better understanding of her strengths and her faults, even if she hasn't figured out the best ways to deal with the latter.

Personality:
Zuko is characterized by her mother as "someone who keeps fighting, even though it's hard," and that has continued as one of her defining traits. Her life has been a constant struggle to prove her own worth and to come to her own understanding of right and wrong. Zuko will pursue a goal with passionate determination regardless of how hopeless or impossible it might seem, and she is willing to face extreme risk to achieve it. Consequently she is stubborn and difficult to dissuade once she has set her mind on something. In the past, she would also adamantly refuse aid, believing that a strong person needed to do things on her own. She has come to realize that accepting help does not make a person weak, although she can still be reluctant about it in certain situations.

She is hot-headed and reactive, and tends to run headlong into situations without thinking through an exit plan. Iroh's counsel and her experiences with Team Avatar have curbed her rash behavior, but she can be goaded into it. She has proven herself clever in coming up with solutions to immediate obstacles or using situations to her temporary advantage, but has difficulty planning for the long-term.

She struggles with a low self-esteem, first built up by years of being the unwanted daughter and now maintained by the guilt she feels over her mistakes. Her greatest fear is that she will one day slip down the wrong path again, and become like her father. These concerns often make her the most serious-minded of any group, and can also make her sensitive and defensive about perceived insults. Despite her determination, she is often pessimistic, expecting to have to struggle through situations rather than reach her goal with ease. Her good moods are somewhat rare, as is any humor beyond sarcasm, although both can be coaxed out of her by people she cares about.

Despite appearances, she has a compassionate heart. This first showed itself as a love for her people and a refusal to sacrifice them in war, and is also shown when she places the lives of her uncle and her crew over her goal of capturing the Avatar. During her time as a fugitive in the Earth Kingdom, she further came to feel a sympathy for a people she had once seen as her enemy. Unlike her ruthless father and sister, Zuko is someone who will defend the weak and show mercy to her enemies. Despite her hot temper, she loathes hurting anyone. In fact, the longer she's spent away of the influence of her father, the more determined she's become to find paths to peaceful resolutions.

The experiences of her upbringing and banishment provided her with few opportunities to interact normally with people, especially people her own age, and have left her socially awkward. She feels more at ease giving orders or discussing battle plans than carrying on a casual conversation. Although known for her loud outbursts, she becomes taciturn when conversing with strangers or makes awkward non sequiturs. She's improved somewhat since joining Team Avatar, but still frequently falls back on things her uncle would say. Very much unlike her sister, she doesn't read people very well, and expects their reactions to be similar to her own if she were in their position.

Powers/Abilities:
♦ Firebending - The ability to create and manipulate fire. Although Zuko does not possess the effortless skill of her father, uncle, or sister, she has still achieved a significant level of mastery by the end of the war. Only the most advanced techniques such as lightning generation are beyond her, and she is the only character to have demonstrated the ability to firebend through weapons, using it in conjunction with her dual swords. This ability is dependant on the sun, so it is strongest in daylight, weakest at night, and completely absent during a solar eclipse.

♦ Dual Dao Swords - Zuko has a natural talent with swords. She trained with Master Piandao while still in the Fire Nation, and she is shown from the start to wield them with ease, as if they were extensions of her own body.

♦ Unarmed Combat - While again not as skilled as her sister, Zuko is still well above average, and capable of evading or even disarming other opponents. Many firebending forms translate well to non-bending attacks.

♦ Stealth - Zuko can conceal herself when she needs to, as shown when she infiltrates both a heavily-guarded Fire Nation fortress and the Dai Li headquarters without being detected.

Items on your character:
Kizuna is not an item, she is a baby dragon. A little more than two months old now and roughly the size of a cat, she will probably learn to fly and breathe fire during the course of the game, but it's doubtful she'll grow big enough to carry anyone. Once she learns, her ability to fly will naturally not allow her to bypass any puzzles.

♦ Bastion Amulet (now useless)
♦ Amulet of Mara (it has no special properties)
♦ Bag of Holding - a backpack that can hold up to 250 pounds of stuff without encumbering the wearer.
♦ Digital Camera
♦ Dual Dao Swords
♦ Pearl-Handled Dagger
♦ Potion of Invisibility (17 seconds)
♦ Travel Cloak - a cloak enchanted to regenerate a day's trail rations and a flask of tea. Can also be used as a tent.
